About Us
Richard and Katelin formed Allied Farriers in early 2020 to bring hoof care into the modern age.
We believe strongly in investing and advancing our education, knowledge and skills. We do this through networking with other farriers and vets, attending clinics, listening to podcasts, reading books, participating in webinars and conferences etc. to further our understanding of anatomy, locomotion, biomechanics and shoeing/trimming techniques. The farrier industry is ever evolving so it is vital to keep up on new information and technology.
We pride ourselves in operating and providing a reliable, professional and stress-free service. Helping to find the right hoof care plan for your horse. Our approach to hoof care utilizes a team approach and a variety of techniques to help get the best result possible that is backed by facts and science. We take into account your requirements, your horse’s age, breed, discipline, workload, environment, and needs to determine if we need to provide comfort, stability, support or protection for each individual. We can use a variety of shoes and/or materials to achieve what your horse needs to be its best.
Meet the Team
Richard
Richard has been in the horse industry from a young age. Working as a trail riding instructor for around 15 years he has worked with a wide range of horses. Richard also has worked as a coach driver at Sovereign Hill.
As a teenager Richard learnt to shoe his own horses and progressed to doing his friends horses too. Wanting a more formal education and to gain his qualification he travelled to the United States to Oklahoma Horse Shoeing School where he earned a Diploma in Advanced Horse Shoeing and Blacksmithing. When returning home, Richard started up his own farrier business which kept him busy until he met Katelin.
Katelin
Katelin has been involved with horses from an early age. She started her career as a barefoot trimmer with experience in boot fitting and composite glue on shoes.
She realized that trimming was only a subtractive process and boots or glue on shoes were not an option for many horses. Katelin felt the need to further her abilities to be able to further help the horses she works with. Travelling to the United States she attended Pacific Coast Horse Shoeing School, finishing top of her class and gained a Diploma in Farrier Science. Since then Katelin has been able to offer the benefits of barefoot and shod intertwined into the services she now provides.
